How can we help our young people understand abstract concepts like “stewardship” and “mission”? We can make them less abstract, more hands on. We can show them what generosity looks like, provide a visual representation of giving.
This year the young people are exploring themes of stewardship and mission through a monthly offering. We are asking the whole congregation to participate, so that the children have a real and tangible view of the giving and commitment to mission we display as a church family. Special collections of items such as canned goods or clothing items take place the first Sunday of each month, in conjunction with our celebration of Communion.
We also organize two seasonal special collections:
Every November, we organize a food drive leading up to Thanksgiving. We ask our congregation to bring in non-perishable food items to stock the GEDCO CARES food pantry. If you would like to help with organizing the food drive or transporting food collected, please contact the office at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Every December, we organize a mitten tree in the Fellowship Room leading up to Christmas. We ask our congregation to bring in Mittens, scarves and hats to decorate the tree. These items then go to aid the McKim Center. If you would like to help with organizing the mitten tree, please contact the office at: email@example.com
