What do a church and a garden have in common? Nourishment. Our 216 square foot garden brings children and adults in our congregation together from April to November to grow food and relationships. We grow everything organically and even make our own compost. Over the past few years we’ve grown 19 different types of vegetables and herbs. In 2018, the church garden doubled its output! The quantities of Kale (25 lbs), Collards (11 lbs), Carrots (7 lbs) and beans (2 lbs) were almost exactly the same as in 2017, and that year we also produced 2 lbs of zucchini, 4 lbs of cucumbers and 13 lbs of peppers from plants not sold at the Strawberry Festival. This past year saw a bumper crop of tomatoes, peppers and kale. Over 94 lbs. of veggies were donated to GEDCO’s CARES food pantry in 2019. With the addition of a sixth 6 x 6 ft raised garden bed in 2020, we are on track to be able to harvest and donate about 115 lbs of produce this growing season.
