- In Luke 4:16-30, Jesus reads from Isaiah 61 and declares, “Today, this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” How do you think the people in the synagogue felt when Jesus first spoke these words? How might their sense of pride in him have shifted to anger?
- Why do you think Jesus chooses to highlight the stories of Elijah and Elisha and their ministry to outsiders? What message was he trying to convey?
2. The Challenge of Grace:
- Pastor Mark noted that the Gospel often offends our sense of fairness. How does the story of Jesus’ hometown sermon challenge you to rethink your understanding of grace, fairness, and belonging?
